I often look for inspiration in the simplest things to see how by turning them around I can find a more original use.
When designing user interfaces I always look for references in web design. Websites have been around for many years, so if a design is still current it's because it works. When I find something I like I see if it can be applicable to video game design.
In this case the source of inspiration were the vertical timelines, normally they are used for blogs but I thought it was interesting to apply that functionality to a game with dialogue.
Obviously this is just a prototype and it won't work in any game, but it seemed right for a game with a lot of dialogue in which it is important to follow the thread of the conversation and see clearly how it evolves according to what the player answers.
The user interface was designed in Adobe Illustrator and programmed in Unity with C#.
